No, we didn't (update of October 2013), and I know of no earth-shattering events that occurred on that date.
Many uneducated people were led to believe that the Mayan calendar ended on December 12, 2012, but in truth it did not. It indicates a scheduled celebration sometime in the 4,000s, for example.
