Brick can be painted, but beware that those bricks are going to soak up lots of paint. Be careful too that you are not depreciating the overall value of your home (and your neighbors homes, too) by covering or painting them.

Black or Grey could either be used as the best color of roofing shingles for a home with red brick. These colors will not clash with the red brick on your home.
