To do so safely drain it and start over. You should get a water testing kit. It could be kids are peeing in the pool the ammonia build up can make it cloudy.

What chemical do you use to clean pool filters?

Most sand and DE filters are cleaned with an acid solution by soaking overnight. Cartridges can use a spray on type and then blasting clean with water. Avoid using household detergents. Biguanide users (Baquacil, Revacil, Soft Swim) should use the product recommended by their manufacturer as it is specifically designed to break down the PHMB residue in the filter. Chlorine users can use any of the filter cleaning products sold at their neighborhood pool store. Pool & Spa

Does anyone have any comments on revacil as pool chemical?

I tried revacil a few years ago. I used it a month and went right back to baquacil. I was convinced by a pool company to try it again this year with a money back guarantee. The chemicals were junk again. I went from a sparkling pool to algae growing in just a week after shocking and topping off normal chemicals. I went back to Roommates in Cape Girardeau, MO for my refund and was immediately told that it was my fault because I used brown sand and not white silica sand. There guarantee was as good as them telling me that I didnt need a main drain on a pool. These chemicals are junk and I would save my money and buy baquacil. Its tried and true. It may cost a little more but it saved me in the long run.

Why does the pool water turn bright green when liquid chlorine is added?

Most likely the pool water has a high concentration of copper. Introduction of chlorine would cause an immediate oxidation of any copper particulate in the water and turn it green. Some goes for iron but it turns the water brown.Ph likely has little to nothing to do with it.AnswerI can only imagine it has something to do with pH. Liquid chlorine has a high pH and it may be raising your already high pH to a point where dissolved metals (eg: iron) come out of solution into suspension. Something is wrong. Tell me what is pH of water, chlorine level before and after adding iquid chlorine? Answermetals You need to add a sequestering agent. These are chemicals that combine with the metals in the pool, bringing them to the surface and not allowing the metals to fall to the bottom. This prevents staining during the treatment. Run your pool filter while adding the sequestering agent and leave it running.Water colour dis-figurations are a common problem and headache for pool owners. Sometimes, we see that there's black in pool water, but have a difficult time tracking down information on what causes it and how we can clear it up. This is because it's not as common of a problem as say, green or cloudy water. However, that doesn't mean it's not as bad. We'd all like crystal clear water, so when it's colour looks a little off we have to worry about staining and so on.These colour changes generally appear when the pool is initially filled or after a shock treatment. This is because if the pool contains metals all ready a shock treatment will oxidize them which makes them easier to see.

Why pressure builds up in your hayward de filter after an hour of cleaing and recharging it?

One of two things or both is likely. First, when was the last time the filter grids or fingers were chemically cleaned? If the filter was ever run without DE powder, or too little, the grids will get clogged with detritus and require more extensive cleaning rather than just backwashing. Secondly, over time body oil, suntan lotion and personal care products will attach to the grids and you cannot rinse them away. If you use a Biguanide system like Baquacil, Revacil or Soft Swim, you will also need to chemically clean the filter more frequently. Get a good filter cleaning solution from your local pool store, soak overnight, rinse and repeat if necessary. Pool & Spa

What treatment works for white water mold and pink slime for a vinyl pool?

What it is & what it looks like:a naturally occurring bacterium (of the newly formed genus Methylobacterium) (this is NOT a form of Algae, it is animal not vegetable)Pink-pigmented, forms a heavy, protective slime coating providing the organism with an unusually high level of protection, methanol consuming, oftentimes found WITH White Water Moldthat is very resilient against halogen-based (chlorine, bromine) as well as non-halogen sanitizers or germicides can remain a contaminant even after treatmentthis is NOT a biguanide problem ONLYbacterium has an affinity for the matrix that exists on the surface of PVC plastics; it will attach itself to & inside of the matrix, allowing it to re-contaminate long after it appears that it has been destroyed (includes pool toys, floats, ladders, steps, fountains, automatic pool cleaner parts, skimmer baskets, weirs, directional fittings, garden hoses, etc.)small quantities can lead to a re-establishment of the problemcaused by improper water & pool maintenance, environment, poor circulationprefers areas that are "dark" (not exposed to direct sunlight) & with "slow moving" water** in another industry, medical technology, this bacterium occurs regularly in laboratory tubing White Water Mold IS NOT CAUSED BY USING BIGUANIDES (Soft Swim, Baquacil, Polyclear, etc.)!It is an environmental issue.Prevention:Prevention of "pink slime" is preferred over treatment. Follow these steps to help prevent pink slime:1. Physically brush & clean ALL Pool surfaces weekly, including ladder steps (especially underneath each step) & rails2. Expose ALL pool surfaces to as much sunlight as possible (sunlight & UV are natural oxidizers)3. Remove the lid from the skimmer to allow sunlight into the basket for several hours each day ** INGROUND POOLS MUST USEEXTREME CAUTION in doing this in order to avoid a person falling into or otherwise injuring themselves due to an open skimmer.4. Regularly add oxidizing chemicals into the skimmer to purge & clean the filtration lines of any bio-film*5 .When adding make-up water from the garden hose, allow the water to run for 2 to 3 minutes before putting the hose into the pool.6. Regularly clean pool toys & floats (use Stow Away)7. Regularly clean pool solar blanket (use Stow Away)8. Chemically clean pool filter every 4 to 6 weeks (use Strip Kwik, Kleen It or Soft Swim® Filter Cleaner)9. Add regular Maintenance dosages of "Shock" & Algicide every 2 to 3 weeks as prescribed.10. Use Optimizer Plus as a preventative measure11. Run the filter a minimum of 12 hours daily to prevent "dead spots" in the pool12. Remember to clean & rinse the brushes, hoses & vacuums that you use to clean the pool 13. Leave as much of your pool equipment exposed to the sun14. Keep the water balanced at all times. Recheck after heavy usage or rain or large "top-offs" of new water. Water balance refers to Free Available Sanitizer level, pH, Total Alkalinity, Calcium Hardness.Treatment:Treatment of "pink slime" MUST BE QUICK AND TOTAL! DON'T SKIMP!Clean all pool & affected surfaces as prescribed above.2. Physically clean & remove all visible "pink slime"3. Add an initial dosage of algicide to the pool*4. "Shock" the pool with a triple or quadruple dose*5. Run filter 24 hours daily until water is clear & halogen or peroxide levels are maintained at a "higher" level*6. Chemically clean the filter7. Bring in a fresh water sample about 4 days later for a retest & evaluation8. Maintain Optimizer Plus levels9. Maintain good water balance of pH, Total Alkalinity & Calcium HardnessNEW BioGuard® Soft Swim®Assist®!The EPA registered CURE for Pink Slime, especially for use in Soft Swim®, Baquacil®, Revacil®, Splashes®, and Poly Clear® (biguanide) treated swimming pools.
