Most actors today are not very rich. They are struggling along with bit parts and dinner theatres, and supplementing their income by being waiters and waitresses. It was the same in Shakespeare's day.
Some actors and actresses these days can get very rich indeed, but the same could happen in Shakespeare's day. Richard Burbage and Edward Alleyn were quite well-to-do and Shakespeare did not do badly. Perhaps they were not spectacularly rich, but in order to do that back then, you pretty much had to be royalty or closely connected with the royalty.
The rich were the ones who saw his plays.
No. Her family were prosperous farmers but not what you would call rich. They were certainly better off than the Shakespeares at the time she married William
No but he used to perform to them. There is also speculation that shakespeare did not write his plays but the king/a rich man did. they did not want the publicity and so shakespeares name was put on them instead as the leader of the actors.
Rich people would pay the expenses of writers or artists. They were the patrons of the arts.
They were closed a couple of times in the 1590's because there was an outbreak of the bubonic plague in the City, and it was thought that disease would spread more if the theatres were open. The actors then went on tour of the country and Shakespeare made himself rich writing long poems like Venus and Adonis.
Everyone who loved theater. There was theater for the poor and theater for the rich.
Poor, like today.
No. There was a real difference, just like today.
rich and posh peoplw who had alot of money who would bring extreme amount of gifts which would cost over £100
Some are, like the big star actors/actresses. The small ones, like the ones on a commercial or other things like theater are not and have to get other jobs to support themselves sometimes.
People are pretty much the same now as they were then. That is why people find Shakespeare's characters so compelling. i agree if we are talking personalities, devious, jealous, lusty, rude, opinionated, ambitious etc that is why his plays survive today, because you can relate to what is going on. Shakespeare was a very clever man, inventing many new words and phrases into the rich English language
