I don't know the answer, so I'll just comment as follows: John Lennon was unconventional and a rebel. Like many other young people in the 1960s and early 1970s, he opposed American involvement in Vietnam. At that time many young people in the US and other Western countries were - usually in a somewhat vague sense - socialists. This doesn't mean that they were dogmatic Marxists except in a handful of cases. John Lennon made fun of Christianity but that doesn't make him a Marxist. If he had been a Marxist, why would he have been a closet Marxist? I done see why he would have felt any need to hide it. This isn't an answer, but it may help. Joncey
