Reactant is starting material in a chemical reaction. It 'causes' the reaction to happen, pretty much. So if there is an equation A + B --> AB, then A + B will be reactants of that reaction. It is found in the beginning of the chemical equation, befor the arrow(indicates 'to produce') sign.

The reactant in chemistry is output of a chemical equation.

for example

if hydrogen with oxygen forms water

then hydrogen and oxygen are the reactants

and water is the product

2H + O2 -> 2H2O
