Chinese New Year has a main color theme of red and gold, or yellow. This color scheme is associated with wealth as it was the color scheme used on the emperor's palace. Gold has an obvious link with wealth. Strong colors, such as red, were associated with wealth because a great deal of expensive dyes would have been required to dye fabric a strong color, such as red.
