Timming is off. I replaced the water pump on my 95 pathfinder and the fact that the timing belt has to be removed, there is a good chance that one of the cams turned. When the timing marks are lined up, it does not take much for one of the cams to get off its mark. Even a slight bump will do it, and it doesn't help that Nissan does not make the timing marks that visible to see. I used white paint and a small detail brush to mark the timing marks.
get at it from the bottom get a white marker and mark the timing spot then go up top and you should be able to see it
On a 1996 Nissan pickup with a 2.4L engine, the timing mark line 0 for ignition timing is typically located on the crankshaft pulley. You can find it aligned with a timing pointer or notch on the timing cover. To set the ignition timing, you would rotate the engine until the mark aligns with the pointer at idle speed, usually while the engine is running. Always refer to the service manual for specific details and adjustments for your vehicle.
red mark is TDC. 15 degrees BTDC where you want to be is 3 marks after TDC.
To set the timing on a 1997 Nissan pickup, first, ensure the engine is at operating temperature and then turn off the engine. Next, locate the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley and the timing scale on the engine. Use a timing light to check the timing by connecting it to the number one cylinder spark plug wire and aiming it at the timing marks while the engine is running. Adjust the distributor as needed to align the timing mark with the specified timing value found in the vehicle's service manual.
The timing marks for the Nissan CD20 engine are typically located on the crankshaft pulley and the timing cover. You should align the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley with the mark on the timing cover to ensure proper timing. Additionally, the camshaft timing marks should align with the corresponding marks on the engine when the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. Always refer to the specific service manual for detailed instructions and diagrams for your model.
