the british called it the french and Indian war because near the end the Indians and french started fighting against each other, rather than together against the british.
If you are talking about the French and Indian War... then it wasn't the French and Indians fighting each other... it was the British and Colonist fighting the French and Indians (Hurons).. Remember in America most wars are named after the country or people we are fighting... ^^ such as Korean War we were fighting the North Koreans... the Vietnam War we fought the Vietnamese I would like to add... that my answer to you is for elementary students... if you are a high school student it gets a little more technical.. since there are Native Americans (Indians) fighting on both sides.
The name "French and Indian War" can be misleading because it sounds like the French and Indians fought against each other. The French colonists treated the Native Americans with A LOT more respect than the other colonists did (including British colonists). The NAs would have rather had no colonization on their land at all, but given the choice to defend the peaceful French territory or fight alongside the British (who wanted to acquire that territory) it was an easy decision for them to make.

YEs i am a sofmore in high school and we just went over this. french and the indians were one the same team they want to have control over america but people really dont know it it was the french and the indians onone side and the use on the other going against the french and the indians. after a months the american won and that when america moved the indians west and the french only got a very small part of haiti
