They did torture many of their captives. This practice was shared with most (probably all) other tribes in the eastern woodlands cultural region.

Skinning alive? No. Descriptions by early white travelers described burning captives with hot embers, beatings, cuts, jabs from sharp sticks, etc. but not skinning alive.
