With the growth of the United States, and the spread of the settlers changes of the frontier changed in many ways. Two most significant changes would be the changes of animal movement which was created by la Save nd being fenced off by settlers. With the Fencing the animals (deer, elk, buffalo) were unable to reach lands they natural migrated to every year (season) and this too changed the movement of the Native people as the followed the herds.
The first answer is certainly without fault however I think the immmediate and long term affects of the changes on the western frontiers of the USA ultimately were a negative for the Native Americans. The spread of settlers who first arrived by wagon trains and then the development of the vast railway network spear headed by the Transcontinental railway placed a large amount of pressure on the Native American tribes. The unofficial doctrine called the manifest destiny was a rallying call for the reduction of non white and non Christian peoples west of the Mississippi. This also included any Mexicans who "were in the way".
The farming settlements and mining groups searching for gold and silver continually violated any treaties that were made by the Federal Government. Violence was the result along with the concept of the "Indian Reservation".
