No they weren't, because they are oceanic islands

Tasmanian devils are endemic to Australia. Ever since European settlement, they have only ever been found on Australia's island state of Tasmania, but fossil evidence indicates they were once found throughout the mainland.

In modern times, no. Millions of years ago the oceans were lower and it's possible that long island may have connected all the way to Cape Cod. Look at a modern map today and you can imagine Long Island connecting from Montauk, through Block Island and joining at Woods Hole, MA
No they were not connected.
Yes, but it became an island about 35,000 years ago. No it didn't. 35,000 years ago Tasmania was still joined to mainland Australia and was populated by Aboriginals. By around 12,000 years ago the sea had separated Tasmania from the mainland and cut off any interaction between Tasmanian Aboriginals and those on the mainland. The result of this separation was some superficial differences between the two groups.
what ever channel you want it to be...
Wow, One of the most splendid buildings I have ever seen. It is third tallest building in the world that is used exclusively as a hotel. The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 m (920 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic structure to mimic the sail of a ship.

Incoming ships can be spotted from a distance and stopped before they ever reached the island of Crete. Minoans had time to prepare defense and did not have to worry about invasions of wandering tribes on the mainland.
