When completed in December, 1972, the WTC North Tower (World Trade Center #1) was the tallest building in the world. It was surpassed in 1974 by the Sears Tower (now the Willis Tower) in Chicago. At the time of their destruction on September 11, 2001, the twin towers were the tallest buildings in New York City.

∙ 11y agoNo, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is currently the tallest building in the world. Its total height is 830 meters (2,722 feet). The total height of the new World Trade Center (Freedom Tower) will be 546 meters (1,792 feet) upon its completion.
So Freedom Tower will be roughly 2/3 the height of the Burj Khalifa.
