Despite the song, they almost certainly were not actually kings. The Bible doesn't go into great detail about them (it doesn't even come right out and say how many there were, just that it must have been more than 1), but based on clues in what it does say it seems likely that they were probably astrologers and/or magicians (there wasn't a big distinction between the two at the time).
The three wisemen/kings that brought the gifts to baby Jesus
the three wisemen
According to the Bible the wisemen, we aren't sure if there are three, brought three different gifts.Gold was brought foretelling Jesus' reign as king.Frankincense was brought to refer to his holiness.Myrrh was brought to signify an untimely death.
According to Matthew 2:1, it states, "Now when Jesus was born in hlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came 3 wisemen from the east to Jerusalem.AnswerActually, there were not 3 wisemen. It says "and came wisemen" It never says 3. People assume that because there were 3 gifts that were brought. They lived in the feilds on the east side of JERUSALEN
The term "wisemen" is actually a misnomer. The wisemen were actually astronomers from the orient who came to find Jesus, but did not do so until about two years after His birth. The Bible doesn't say there were three of them either. So the phrase "the three wisemen" is not a correct statement. However, the men did bring gifts of gold frankincense and myrrh when they did find Jesus.
Because that was the day baby Jesus was born and wisemen from the East gave gifts to him. So when you give a gift to someone, its like giving a gift to Jesus.
No one knows. The Bible only says that wise men came. However, it says they brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh, and because only three gifts were listed people have assumed it was three people.
The Bible does not name the wisemen nor say how many of them there are.
The wise men brought gifts to Jesus after His birth.
