A Barbian was anyone in the early Middle Ages who was not from England. They were raders from about 400 - 800 AD. While the Vikings were typically Norse. Known for their Long boats, they raided when their land was cold and food supplies low. Their first recorded raid was around 780 AD on England. Their time frame was 800- 1100 AD.

"Barbarian" is a general derogatory term for any person or group that is perceived to be uncivilized. It doesn't refer to any specific group of people from history.

Whether or not Vikings were barbarians depended on who was passing judgement on them.
