travels at different speed and length
A Yacht refering to just a boat starts at 34 feet. A mega yacht is anything above 100 feet. A super yacht refers to anything 200 feet and larger.
A ship is used for commercial purposes, whereas a yacht is used purely for recreational purposes. Size does not matter
If your 32 feet boat is used solely for pleasure / leisure, then it may be considered a yacht. If it is a utility vessel such as a tender, ferry, tug, or any other service vessel then it is not a yacht.
A yacht is smaller and designed to be propelled by sails.
The basic difference is that a yacht is driven by sail (though may also have an inboard or outboard engine, in case the wind drops, or when in harbour). A steamer is usually driven by an inboard engine only - once commonly coal fired, or more modernly diesel driven.
A kayak is a lot smaller. Also, a yacht requires an engine and a kayak uses a paddle. Lastly, kayaks are better than yachts ;) A girl once asked for one opposed to an engagement ring. And she got it.

The Staten Island Ferry has gained the nickname of 'The Boat.' It also acquired the nickname 'Shaolin Yacht Club' from the seminal Rap group, the Wu-Tang Clan, who hail from Staten Island. The Ferry has been providing their 25 minute trips to Manhattan since 1950.
This is a yacht that has capabilities of going fast enough to plane, but can also be run at low RPM's to travel long distances. In between a trawler and a speedboat.
