Jack is 8 years old and Annie is 6 years old.
The Star - crossed series is quite good.Reckless magic, Hopeless magic, Fearless magic and Endless magic, these are all part of the series in order.
I read all of them in first grade. I don't recall any of them mentioning issues too old or mature for first graders. I think any/all of them would be appropriate.
