XAT is conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur whereas CAT is conducted by the IIMs. Basic subjects are the same in both exams except for general knowledge, which is an extra section in XAT. The level of questions asked in both exams is quite different. According to market research, scoring well in XAT is far easier than in CAT.
The definition of easy and tough is very subjective. What may be easy for one may be difficult for the other. So it is better to build your aptitude according to your goals and then take the test.
