The PROTONS and NEUTRONS in the nucleus of an atom make nearly all the mass of an atom.

By definition a proton has mass of '1'

A neutron has a mass of '1'

However an electron has a mass o 1/1860 of a proton.

So as an example, taking carbon .

It has a mass of '12' , composed of 6 x 1 protons + 6 x 1 neutrons. The '6' electrons only have a comparable mass of 6/1860 = 1/310.
