In fashion design, the sketching of a cloth concept is only one crucial part of the whole design process. The fashion designer may go a step ahead and make a real sample of the sketch before it goes into batch production.
I usually use a sample body drawing that I get off the internet, or trace from an established patten. I use a soft lead drawing pencil and gum eraser to make changes easier. Some people can use sketch drawing books, and just sketch from scratch, so to speak, but I find that starting with a base figure works better for me. I'm not as much of an artist, as a designer.

You are putting too many dimensions on it. For example, if there is a L shaped sketch and you dimension from the bottom of the L to just above the horizontal part, and then you dimension the vertical part from the end point of the last dimension you'd be okay. But, if you dimensioned both of those lengths and then the total length you would be over dimensioning the sketch.
