The Tropic of Capricorn passes through Botswana.
1 Equator 2 Tropic of Cancer 3 Tropic of Capricorn 4 Artic Circle 5 Antarctic Circle
Ok. There are three. One is called the Equator. The other two are the Tropic of Capricorn and The Tropic of Cancer. Remember these by thinking of Knee CAPs (Capricorn, is on the bottom) and Brain CANCER(Cancer is on the top) Thanks! xxoo
The Tropic of Capricorn is located at 23°26′22″S, while some may say it is 23 1/2 or 23.5 degrees south.(the best is 23 1/2 because they dont use decimals in degrees, they use fractions) The Tropic of Capricorn is the southernmost point at which the Sun shines directly overhead at noon at the December solstice.
It is to indicate the start and end of the Tropics. It also shows the northernmost and southernmost points on Earth where the Sun shines directly overhead at midday in the June solstice and December solstice respectively.
Tropical climates are found between 0 degrees (Equator) and 23 and 1/2 degrees north or south of the Equator - (Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn). You can locate these latitudes in an atlas.
These were named approx. 2000 years ago when 1) the sun was positioned in the Cancer constellation during the June solstice, and 2) the sun was positioned in the Capricorn constellation during the December solstice.
