Germany lost a lot of land and rights and adjacent countries gained land and some new countries gained independence. Germany lost a lot of people and I dont think anyone gained people.

i think the rich (church and nobles and royalty) lost rights, however the poor gained rights EDIT Before the revolution, nobles and religious people were had a lot of proviledges whereas they represented less that 2% of France. So the rest, 98% composed of peasants, poor or even rich people (not nobles!) decided to fight for equality. They gain many many rights and created the Human Rights.

Think about it. We've got World War I and World War II in the 1900s. We've also got the Cold War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, etc. Lots of wars. Lot's of people. Perhaps you were born in the 1990s.
In the 1900s, a lot of money would have been considered several thousand dollars. This varied by region and context, but having a couple thousand dollars could be equivalent to having a significant amount of wealth back then.
