1. The first thing i check is the tyres, i dont use a psi gauge i just have a visual check on tyres,
2. check the water / coolant level (when the engine is cold) through the overflow system which prevents air from getting into the cooling system causing the car to overheat
3. check the engine oil for amount and also the color of the oil (light brown color, not black)
You could also check the brake fluid level and also power steering level
