The difference between the New England and middle colonies was the way the land was divided up as well as the fact that the middle colonies produced many of the early crops for the first thirteen colonies.

The soil was very bad for growing crops and gardening and was not fertile because of glaciers. Glaciers from the north went through the New England colonies and picked up all the fertile soil with them. The soil ended up in The Middle and Southern Colonies.
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island made up the New England Colonies. New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware made up the Middle Colonies. Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia made up the Southern Colonies.
