BMI of greater than 35 is considered ASA 3 or 4. Differentiating between the two is not based on a higher BMI but on other co-existing conditions like uncontrlled Diabetes, Renal Failure, Unstable angina etc.

Where can I read unbiased opinions of the Bariatric Institute?

There are many reasons for a person to be morbidly obese, whether its a medical condition, poor decisions in eating habits, or not being able to be as active as you once were. If you are interested in losing weight and would like some options, or what to hear what others have to say that are also morbidly obese, you may want to consider joining a support group. A good one will give advice on surguries, diets, excercise, and personal life experiences from real people. Go try this site, the people are very friendly here: http://www.experienceproject.com/groups/Am-Morbidly-Obese/6182

Is there a safe liposuction alternative for the super obese?

If you are morbidly obese (super obese) a safer alternative to liposuction would be bypass surgery. There are several different types of bypass surgery available, all with their own risks, but a patient can discuss these options with their doctor to determine which option is best for them!

Things to look for before and after bariatric surgery?

Things to look for before and after bariatric surgery can help you make a decision on whether or not you want to go through with it and continue with the surgery. You should be morbidly obese to qualify, and anyone that doesn't fit the criteria to be morbidly obese should not get the surgery. There is a chance of mortality or death with the surgery so people shouldn't go through it unless it is absolutely medically necessary. Sometimes, it can confer benefits to the person if they would otherwise get a serious debilitating illness like a sedentary disease.

Can you die from losing 20 pounds in a week?

Unless you are super morbiddly obese, it is EXTREMLY dangerous to lose that much weight in a week. I'm not sure if you would die, but you would definatly become very sick. It is nearly imposible that someone who ISN"T morbidly obese would lose that much weight in a week anyway. It is healthiest to try to lose 1-2.5 pounds a week if you are overweight.

What would you think if you met Henry viii?

He was considered attractive and charismatic, but also was morbidly obese. I would think him rather a barbarian in his own way... His love life was all over the place... Six wives, "divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived" I don't think I would approve of him.

Is a fat person really fat?

It depends on your point of view. Lets say there are 3 people the thin the average and the fat the thin person would view the average & fat person obese the average person would view people heavier then he/she is as fat and the fat would view itself and people higher as fat. It really depends a point of view. Typically when people say "Oh she is extremely fat!" it typically means very obese in everyones view But if a thin person is talking to an average person and says " Oh she is extremely fat!" the average might assume its an obese person while the thin will view it as an average or an obese

If you are 5'1 what should your weight be?

Well, the medical community would have you believe there is a short answer to that question. But then they would also tell you that as a 5'7" amateur strongman i am morbidly obese at 235 pounds. There is no fast answer for what your weight should be given your height, it all depends on your frame, your body composition, gender and age.
