Go to an auto parts store and give them your make & model, engine size, year etc. They can look it up for you. I have a 1997 Grand Cherokee and mine uses type ATF. Don't trust the salespeople at the "BIG BOX" stores. They told me there was only one kind, I knew they were wrong. For a 1997 Grand Cherokee, you can use ATF-3, ATF-4, or ATF-5. if you use ATF-4 or 5, you're safe. I am using ATF-4 in mine (I remember reading that ATF-3 was superceded with 4 and 5, and Jeep prefers you put the newer stuff in)
ATF+4 but Mercon Dexron is fine Use ATF+4 only. Dextron will cause shifting issues.
It use ATF+4.
