Think about the word industrial. Industrial would not be part of our vocabulary if it was nor preceded by successes in science and technology. In some ways, Science and Technology are considered the same thing. Science is the study and developement of new understanding of our physical world. Technology is the application of science into products that can be used outside the laboratory. For example: A company developed a fluorine-containing polymer that was called "Teflon". It's application found ways to coat cooking pots so food would not stick to it. Some aspects of science has been observed and known for many centuries and only recenly did Technology find a way to make that discovery useful. For other discoveries, the role of Science and the role of Technology merged at the same time to make a useful product.
