Go to the Ford dealer and get their silica based coolant.
The new DexCool coolant uses an organic acid as the protectant instead of the silica. The organic acid is also a plasticizer, think Armor All and keeping your dashboard from cracking. A plasticizer keeps plastic flexible. Unfortunately certain intake gaskets, the GM 4.3 liter intake manifold gasket for one, softened and failed with the DexCool coolant.
Do not use Prestone Universal or anything that says extended life 150,000 miles. Those all use the US organic acid technology which is different from the Japanese extended life coolant or the German/European extended life coolant.
I'm pretty sure its the green like alot of older cars. but to be safe get the MULTI use antifreeze.
I was looking at the 1999 Lincoln Town Car Owner Guide and it shows : Ford Premium Engine Coolant ( green in color ) Ford specification ( ESE - M97B44 - A ) ( I use the Recochem green colored universal antifreeze because it meets the above Ford specification in my Ford Explorer )
According to the 1999 Ford F-150 owners manual : It came from the factory with a 50 / 50 mix of distilled water and GREEN colored antifreeze ( meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A ) in the engine cooling system
50/50
According to the 1999 Ford Contour Owner Guide ( for North America ) It came from the factory with a 50 / 50 mix of distilled water and GREEN color antifreeze ( meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A )
A 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis came from the factory with a 50 / 50 mix of distilled water and ( GREEN color antifreeze , meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A )
The color of antifreeze that you use on a 2004 Ford Escape is green.
50 / 50 mix of antifreeze and preferably distilled water Ford states not to exceed 60 % antifreeze in cold climates and not to use less than 40 % antifreeze for corrosion protection
it doesen t use regular antifreeze, you have to use dexcool, its orange color
