Radiator cleaner has a chemical that is a mild acid. A person can make a less caustic radiator cleaner by using a product called Sal Soda. Put the cap on the radiator and run the vehicle for about 10 miles. Then drain and refill with the appropriate antifreeze.

Water and antifreeze have a eutectic melting point]. Some manufacturers also mix in proprietary additives to differentiate their products.

If you're planning on using a chemical drain cleaner to knock a clog out of the drain, try to avoid drain cleaners that you use lye or acid - these are the most corrosive chemicals around and can cause serious harm if not used carefully!
