The Akhal-Teke is from Turkmenistan. It is one of the oldest breeds on record and is even older than the Arabian. It is a national emblem in it's home country.

The Akhal-Teke is a horse breed native to Turkmenistan, and is the national emblem of the country. Turkmenistan is located in Central Asia.
The Akhal - Teke breed is endangered there are few breeders left of this oldest sport horse breed that are keeping the breed alive. We found Akhal Valley Farms out of Canada, a breeding operation that is keeping this rare breed alive and appreciating the athleticism as they compete in dressage and jumper competitions.
They are two separate breeds. The Akhal-Teke is a decendant of the Turkoman Horse.

The metallic sheen is due to the hair structure in the coat of the Akhal-Teke.
The turkoman breed of horse, which was noted for it's endurance, is sadly now extinct :( The akhal-teke horse is a modern descendant.
