CD's, DVD's
NO BLURAY
Apple sells an external Super Drive (CD/DVD drive) that plugs into your MacBook Air's USB port.
Of course! A Macbook can play DVDs! yes i have a macbook pro and it plays DVDs. It depends on the model. Certain ones, like the 2012 MacBook Pro I am using, still have DVD drives. My 2013 MacBookPro with Retina Display at home, on the other hand, does not. Apple has been making an effort to phase out DVD/CD-R drives on multiple MacBook models due to their size and the prevalence of streamed media.
It's all personal preference. If you feel you will not utilize the DVD player much, and want a little lighter laptop, then the MacBook Pro Retina variants (which don't have the DVD player) may be a better choice for you.
It has recently come out with retina display, upgraded performance, keyboard, touchpad, etc. and a retina display. Unfortunately apple has removed the DvD drive to reduce the thickness. The thickness of the Mac Pro retina is equivalent to the thickest point of the Macbook Air. But all those features make the price tag go above 2K.
Right now, the Macbook Pro with Retina display is the best Mac laptop. It has a 2.6GHz (or 2.8GHz) quad core i7 Ivy Bridge processor with 8GBs if RAM which can be upgraded to 16GBs of RAM . It also has a very vivid and beautiful screen, with a resoulution higher the HD tv's. The mac pro retina also has 1GB of video memory and SSD drive for speedy transfers up too 80MB/sec but it doesn't have a dvd drive.
The MacBook's DVD Player software will play all standard DVDs inserted into the DVD drive on the side of the MacBook.
The very best Mac laptop is the 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display. However it is very expensive at $2,599. The 13" Macbook Pro with Retina display at $1,799 is just as good only slightly smaller. The negative of all of these is that they use flash storage which is not near as large as the 13" Macbook Pro without Retina display that has a price of $1,199 and a 500GB hard drive. They also do not have a DVD/CD drive like the base model 13". For this reason IMO the base model 13" Macbook Pro without Retina display is the best Macbook Pro and is also the cheapest. If you are a student, teacher, or government worker you can buy the base model 13" Macbook Pro for $999.
Not directly. Pre-2012 MacBook Pros had a DVD/CD drive built in. 2012 and later MacBook Pros that have Retina don't have an optical drive built in. So, to play any Blu-Ray movie, you would need to purchase and connect an external Blu-Ray drive.
As there is no built in DVD drive in the MacBook Air your options are: - purchase a separate DVD drive to plug-in to the computer - wirelessly connect to another computer (Mac OS or WIndows) which is able to share their DVD drive. - join the 21st century and watch a movie from online sources such as iTunes.
Detailed instructions for doing this are here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/MacBook-Pro/SuperDrive/85/6 however this will void your warranty if you are not an apple certified technician.
Yes, there's the Apple USB SuperDrive that plays and burns DVDs/CDs. It goes for $75 on Amazon. I'm not completely understanding your question, but I believe that is what you are getting at.
The MacBook Air does not have a CD/DVD drive built in. It is designed to be used on a wireless network and, if required, would connect to a CD/DVD drive on another computer via the network. An external USB CD/DVD drive can be added.
