The Puritans are the ones that began the settlement in the area that would become Boston. They purchased the land from an English settler named William Blaxton.
The Europeans settled in Vermont because they were being pushed around. They came to the USA by boat, floated down the almost finished Erie Canal and ended up in Vermont. they settled here but realized the weather was to cold so they headed down to southern Vermont where the weather was warmer.
They settled there because the soil was fertile and the river supplies them with plenty of water.
