Benjamin Franklin made friends with the French. The french Joined the Revolutianary war because they were mad at the British after ther lose in the French and Indian War.
Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and british Columbia were the first provinces to join confederation.

The Algonquin, Shawnee, Ottawa, Wyandot, Lenape and Ojibwa all joined the French to fight the British.
Well if you are referring to the french and Indian war that all started in 1754 when the french had a fort in what is now Pittsburgh. The British in Virginia thought it was on there land so they tried to make the french leave. George Washington (21 years old and fighting for Britain) lead around 150 men and tried to force the french out. They killed 10 french men and that sparked the french and Indian war. Then General Edward Braddock joined Washington and the french joined with there native American friends and at Fort Duquesne the Indians and french fought the British.
When British Columbia joined Confederation on July 20, 1871, the only other provinces were the original four plus Manitoba.
Some tribes, in fact became British allies. Others joined with the French. Some of the alliances were based on old tribal conflicts. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
