The word constant motion of plates means the plate are not static that is they move either towards each other(convergence),away from each other(divergence)or slide passing one another. Many features have been found on the earth crust as a result of plates being in constant motion. Also must gigantic explosions have been noticed to had occured on the earth surface due to the movement of plates such as ,volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, seafloor spreading.

The Earth's tectonic plates are in constant motion due to several factors Temperature and density differences in the plates cause push and pull forces that move the plates?

The volcanic activey under the crust causes the tectonic plates to move

What is it when pieces of earth's crust are in constant slow motion called?

The movement of crustal or lithospheric plates is a part of the theory of plate tectonics. The geological theory is called plate tectonics.

What causes Europe and North America to drift apart?

Just like with any country, this is because they lie on tectonic plates which are in constant motion.

Where do plates float?

The Earth's tectonic plates are in constant motion. This movement is possible because they lay on top of the asthenosphere which is the outer mantle.

Constant motion has a constant speed, and accelerated motion has an accelerating speed! [getting faster] :)

Do you know The geographical process involved by earthquakes?

Well, there are lots of processes going on to make earthquakes happen. The crust is split into many tectonic plates. Along these plates are fault lines. The plates are in constant, but slow motion, because these plates are in constant motion the rub against each other, this cause a great amount of energy to be collected and stored and finally, when there is too much energy stored the plates rocks that collect the energy explode, therefore this causes the ground to shake and costs many people their lives.

If tectonic plates move so slowly 2-20cmyr why can earthquakes be so devastatingly powerful?

Most people think of the plates like a conveyor belt in constant motion. They are not in constant motion, instead they move suddenly as pressure builds up along the fault line and then is released in a burst of energy. The amount of energy that is then released is amazingly large.
