So far as I know, the oldest monument (if by "New World" you mean the US) is a school house in St Augustine, Florida.
Why not? It roots us and makes us aware of where we come from as a species. A lot can be learned from the past. The Renaissance is just an example of this, Egyptian architecture and aesthetic still inspires us today.
The seven wonders of the world were chosen by how magnificent and glorious they were (also how big). For example, one of the seven wonders of the world is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Do you want to know how that reef got chosen? Because it's the biggest reef in the world (literally, no jokes).

The Great Wall of China originally was not included in the list of the seven wonders of the ancient world. When the world entered the 21st century people were invited to vote a new list of wonders over the internet and among them was the Great Wall of China. The following is a list of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: * Great Pyramid of Giza * Hanging Gardens of Babylon * Statue of Zeus at Olympia * Temple of Artemis at Ephesus * Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus * Colossus of Rhodes * Lighthouse of Alexandria The Great Wall of China is included in the "Seven Wonders of the Medieval World." There is also a "Seven Wonders of the Modern World."But the World now of these days say that it is not part of any of the seven wonders.
