Easter Sunday is the major holiday in Christianity because it is the day that Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave. Christianity stands or falls on the resurrection of Christ. Please read I Corinthians 15:12-23. The holiday that is second is Christmas as this is the day Christians celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ to earth as a human being (Incarnation). Jesus came for one major reason and that was to die for the sins of the world. That He did on the cross of Calvary, then he was buried and was then resurrected the third day. We do not know the actual day that Jesus was born, but celebrated it on December 25th. Our Easter Sunday closely follows the Jewish Passover (the day Jesus was crucified).
