A common cause is failure to drink enough water. If traveling, exercise and offer clean water (preferably brought from your home) every time you stop when traveling.
Pay attention to how your dog "normally" defecates. Dogs with constipation of recent onset should be examined by your Vet. Other reasons to seek veterinary consultation are painful defecation, straining beyond the norm, and passing blood or mucus.
Monitor how much your dog drinks in comparison with his/her norm. A mild laxative may be all that's needed. At home, again, more exercise. If water intake drops-off, see your Vet.
Ingesting foreign matter: bone chips, hair, grass, cellulose, cloth, paper, is a major cause of acute and chronic constipation. The indigestible material mixes with feces to form rock-like colon masses.
Drugs commonly used can also cause constipation as a side effect. Discuss this possibility with your Vet. Hypothyroidism is an occasional cause of chronic constipation. A bowl obstruction presents similarly and will kill your pet if left untreated.
Be Preventive: The urge to defecate can also be voluntarily overridden. DO NOT leave your pet confined for prolonged times, especially during house-training. When left alone in the house (or in-door kennel), they often override the urge to defecate. Dogs may also be reluctant to empty their bowels when hospitalized, boarded, or traveling.
Eliminate or control predisposing causes. Be sure to provide access to clean, fresh water at all times including trimming back wild berries and such from from their dog run.
Constipation associated with ingesting foreign materials: Never use bone chips as treats. Eliminate the source and give dog biscuits to chew on instead. You can also help (especially with older dogs) by soaking their kibble with water (don't turn it into soup, add enough water that when absorbed leaves a small amount in the bottom of the bowl before serving). I train K9s, War, and protection dogs. We routinely do this at the kennel with whom I train from the time the dog is six-weeks old.
Put a teaspoon of mineral oil on food or if it's very bad use a baby's Fleets enema. Both have worked well for my dogs.
A Pitt dog he act like he is consepation
a person that haven't had a bowel movement for days?
It depends if they have consipation BY EIMAN
No, but if constipation is caused by illness, the illness can cause a period to be late.
Why would you even want to give that to your dog? Do NOT give it to your dog. If you think your dog is ill or possibly has diabetes, take your dog to your Veterinarian for a check up.
