Thedora provoked the Nika Riots.
Justinian was about to take the adviser's advice, but Thedora told him to stay and fight.

You see, when Thedora and Justian got married. People looked down on her, cause she used to be a circus traveler. So people didn't look at her as someone with high status, even if she was married to Justian, the emperor. The towns people didn't like Theadora, so they started talking about her behind her back. Bad things. She didn't like those.

So Theadora told Justian to stay and fight, which he did. Theadora told the Greens and Blues that they would compermise in the Hippodrome, which wasn't anything weird, since most promblems were compermised in the Hippodrome in the first place. Theadora took away their weapons, locked the door in the Hippodrome and sent out people to kill the Blues and Greens.

What caused the nika rebellion?

The Nika Riots took place in Constantinople in 532. There was a lot of unrest at the time because of high taxes and wars. Politics in Constantinople was dominated by factions which were identified by the colors of liveries of chariot teams they supported. The most important were the Blues and the Greens. After races, they commonly rioted. When a number of people were killed in riots, the murderers were caught and sentenced to death. This led to more riots, and in the end, about half of Constantinople was burned down. Many thousands of people were killed, and the riots were put down with brutal force.
