What options did the US have to counter the soviets to build up missiles in Cuba?

They advised the Soviet Union that an attack on the US from Cuba would be considered as an attack by the Soviet Union- and response would be to the Soviet union, not just to Cuba. The US also implemented a blockade of shipping going to Cuba- no ship carrying missiles would be allowed to go TO Cuba.

How did Cuba almost cause a nuclear was between the soviet union and the US?

The Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1962, The Soviet Union, in collaboration with Fidel Castro, began building nuclear missiles on the Island of Cuba. Because the Soviets technology at the time limited their nuclear missiles range, they felt that having missiles in Cuba was the only way of defending against an attack by the United States, whose nuclear arsenal could reach the Soviet Union at any time. Castro, after the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, thought that another attack by the U.S was inevitable and agreed to the Soviet installations. President Kennedy imposed a quarantine on the island by surrounding it with naval vessels and ordered the missiles to be dismantled. Several tense days went by, and the world was on the brink of nuclear war. the worst day being October 27th when a U2 reconnaissance plane was shot down. On October 28th, The U.S and the Soviet Union came to an agreement. The missiles and bombers would be removed from Cuba, and the U.S agreed not to invade Cuba, thus ending the crisis.

What was the Cuban Missel Crisis?

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation between the Soviet Union, Cuba and the United States in October 1962, during the Cold War. In September 1962, the Cuban and Soviet governments began to surreptitiously build bases in Cuba for a number of medium- and intermediate-range ballistic nuclear missiles with the ability to strike most of the continental United States. On October 14, a United States U-2 photo-reconnaissance plane captured photographic proof of Soviet missile bases under construction in Cuba. The Americans feared the Soviet expansion of Stalinism, but for a Latin American country to ally openly with the USSR was regarded as unacceptable, given the Soviet-American enmity since the end of the WWII in 1945. Such an involvement would also directly defy the Monroe Doctrine, a United States policy which held that European powers should not interfere with states in the Western Hemisphere.

Why do you think the US government wanted to remove Soviet missiles in?

The secret build up of offensive Soviet missiles was discovered by a U-2 Spy plane overflight of the tiny island. President Kennedy, considered an invasion of Cuba after the discovery, similar to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion 18 months earlier. After much discussion, he opted for a "Quarantine," of Cuba, which resulted in a naval blockade around the island. Kennedy demanded that the Soviets remove the missiles, however NikitaKhrushchev, publicly denounced the plan.In order for both parties to show their strength as leaders, a back room deal was had, out of view of the public on each side. The Soviets said they would remove the missiles, if the United States agreed to never invade Cuba again.Unknown to the world for over 25 years, was an even more shocking agreement. To sweeten the deal, and allay the Soviets fears of missiles on their borders, Kennedy agreed to remove America's Jupiter missiles from Turkey and Italy.
