One could interpret 'oldest country' by oldest establishment of a country currently existing today; oldest place recorded to have been a country; place of oldest remains of a civilization; place of oldest remains of human habitation. Without establishing the context of the question, the answer can only be based on individual interpretation of the question. Therefore, most of the answers submitted and deleted could apply.

Well, the longest lived country in the world is proclaimed to be San Marino. It became a country in September 3, 301 AD after gaining independence from the Roman Empire, and has the world’s oldest constitution having been written in 1600. True, other countries have traced back to earlier years, but San Marino was the first country to have established its borders unchanged. However, it was not recognized as an independent country until 1631. The real answer for the real oldest country in the world is still very difficult to know for sure.
