Pittsburgh grew around the site of Fort Duquesne. Fort Duquesne was at what is now called The Point which is flat land where the rivers Allegheny and Monongahela converge to form the Ohio River.

The acropolis (= high city) was the fort and refuge in a city. As the city grew up around it, it housed temples which were also used as treasuries.
It was a high area on which a defensive fort was established. As the city grew around it, it had temples erected and city funds were held there under protection of the god.
San Angelo, Texas, was founded in 1867. It began as a military outpost known as Fort Concho, established to protect settlers and maintain order in the region. The settlement grew around the fort, and over the years, it developed into the city of San Angelo. The city was officially incorporated in 1881.
Fort Myers was named after Colonel Abraham C. Myers, who served as a quartermaster in the U.S. Army. The fort was established in 1850 during the Second Seminole War to protect settlers in the area. Colonel Myers played a significant role in the military presence in Florida during that time. The city of Fort Myers later grew around the fort, adopting its name.
