As a general rule, no British general circulation decimal coin could be considered rare. Those that are, are error coins, ie. something that deviates from the standard or intended design.

An example is some of the 1983 Two Pence coins were minted with the words "NEW PENCE" instead of just "PENCE". These coins were only issued in some mint sets.

Others are a little more obvious such as a 10 Pence coin minted on a 5 Pence blank.

What is the value of a 1992 English pound?

It is just worth a pound about $1.25/$1.50 in exchange. They are found in common circulation in the UK. These are not rare coins, but due to the weak dollar and strong pound, they are indeed worth holding onto.

What is the most that has been paid for a UK coin still in curcultion?

Most likely a few hundred pounds for one of the "dateless" 20p coins when the error was first discovered. Since no UK circulation coins have been released containing any precious metals (silver/gold/platinum coins have been released and are legal tended in the UK, but they do not usually circulate) since the time of switching to decimal currency, the only valuable coins are errors.

What was the date that pure silver coins were minted in UK?

"Pure" silver coins were never minted in Britain. The closest to pure silver used in coins is sterling silver which is 92.5% silver usually alloyed with copper. Sterling silver coins were last issued for general circulation in 1919 and 1920, beyond 1919/1920 the coins were debased to 50% silver. The Royal Mint still produces Proof and bullion coins (not for general circulation) which are made from sterling silver, but this is reflected in the price you pay for them.

When did the British Groat go out of circulation?

The last British Groat (Fourpence) coins minted for general circulation were issued in 1855. There were Proof coins minted in 1857, 1862 and 1888. The Groat does not seem to have been officially withdrawn from circulation at any time and was still being used in some ceremonies well into the 20th century. Circulation of the Groat just seems to have declined as most found their way into coin collections. The Groat has continued to be produced as part of the British silver Maundy set, an annual ceremony which continues to this day. The Groat is no longer circulated since the silver content and numismatic value of the Maundy coins far outweigh their face values.

When was the 1 withdrawn from circulation in the UK?

The Royal Mint stopped issuing the pound note in 1984. However those already in circulation were still legal tender until 1988. Once the note ceased to be legal tender - you could only exchange them in banks for pound coins. All other retail outlets refused (quite rightly) to accept the nots for payment.

What is highest valued coin?

In the UK we have a commemorative five pound (£5) coin. Five pound coins are legal tender, but are intended as souvenirs and are not usually seen in circulation.
