The White House Putting Green lies a short walk outside the Oval Office door to the southeast. A putting green was first installed by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954 with help from the United States Golf Association and private donations. Eisenhower was a very avid golfer and was sometimes criticized for it, but he and his doctor readily defended the habit as good for his health, which had suffered during his presidency.

I am not sure which president fits this description, but I do know that President Eisenhower's staff removed three squirrels that were digging up Ike's favorite putting green on the White House grounds. It wasn't that the president hating squirrels-- he hated what they were doing to his golf game. On the other hand, President Reagan became rather fond of the White House squirrels, and on one of his presidential Christmas cards, he had a picture of a squirrel running across the lawn.
