LOUIS ARMSTRONGtransformed jazz in the 1920's and gave it a direction and purpose. He remains one of its most important figures, changing the nature of soloist and ensemble. He was also able to pursue a career in mainstream entertainment and, health permitting, remain loyal to his true jazz credentials...
Louis's sister name was beatrice Armstrong mostly known as Selena or doll.Louis's brother's name im not sure of sorry im looking for it too. Louis had two half-brothers and a half sister: Willie and Henry Armstrong...His half-sister named was Bernice. Beatrice not only was she known as Selena...she was mostly known within her family as "Mama Lucy". This is not a thought...this is a known fact by me: Henry Armstrong was married to my Fathers Sister. Many many years ago Louis gave a concert in New Orleans. After the concert he and his band came over to Henrys home for dinner (where I had the honor of meeting him). The next morning when he left...it was found out that his Sister Bernice was killed in an auto-accident in Boutte, Louisiana the same night of the festivities.

Louis Armstrong was known as Pops, Dippermouth and Satchmo, the latter from "satchel mouth" (his childhood habit of keeping things in his mouth to prevent other kids from taking them). He was born in New Orleans on the August 4, 1901. His first horn was a cornet, but he became more famous playing jazz on his trumpet. Known to sweat profusely while singing under hot lights, Armstrong made his handkerchief a regular prop in his later performances. He is one of very few musical performers for whom a major airport has been named. On the 100th anniversary of his birth, the main aviation facility in New Orleans was officially renamed "Louis Armstrong International Airport."
