The main areas are the Kalgoorlie and Leonora regions. There are mines at Coolgardie, Leinster, Menzies, and a new gold mine at Boddington, southwest of Perth. Western Australia has several working gold mines, but its largest is the Fimiston Open Pit gold mine at Kalgoorlie- Boulder. This mine is nicknamed the "Super Pit" because it is an open cut gold mine, currently 3.5 km long, 1.5 km wide and 360 m deep.
