Well, you have to know what the average population increase is over a set number of years to get a good estimate... From 1950 - 2010 (60 Years) the population increase was about 0.5%. So, if we want to see what the estimated population will be in 2110, we will have to use a formula to get it (which is "y=abx"). We will figure it out in the following calculations...

Formula: y=abx

Average Population Increase ("b"): 0.5%

Population of area at time "0" ("a"): City; 285,000, Metro; 410,000

How many years to predicted year ("x"): 101 years

City: y2110 -> 285,000 x 1.005 ^ 100 = 469,300

Metro: y2110 -> 410,000 x 1.005 ^ 100 = 675,134

(By The Way) "^" means "to the power of..."

So, with those calculations we can predict that...

Halifax, Nova Scotia in the year 2110 will have approximately 469,300 in the city, and 675,134 in the metro (HRM).
