Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is considered by biologists to be the energy currency of life. It is the high-energy molecule that stores the energy we need to do just about everything we do. It is present in the cytoplasm and nucleoplasm of every cell, and essentially all the physiological mechanisms that require energy for operation obtain it directly from the stored ATP.

What is the name of the nucleotide that has three phosphate groups?

Isn't it ATP? * Strictly speaking, a nucleotide has only the one phosphate group. When there are three phosphate groups, the compound is named along these lines: "(base + sugar) triphosphate". So, for example, ATP is named adenosine triphosphate. Likewise for the others: CTP = cytidine triphosphate GTP = guanosine triphosphate TTP = thymidine triphosphate UTP = uridine triphosphate
