the process of rain is called precipitation
It can mean a few things, but the 2 most common are: -in winter or cold weather situations, it means freezing rain/sleet, or a rain/snow mix -in strong storms, the level of precipitation ranges from light rain in shades of green, up through steady rain in yellow, to heavy rain in red. Sometimes pink is used to indicate even heavier rain, usually a blinding downpour, and once in Oklahoma I actually saw them use black on the radar, which must be the heaviest rain possible.
