It's because there is already natural CO2 in the rain water (from the atmosphere), and CO2 is an acidic gas.

In today's world, there is no such thing as unpolluted water. We have successfully polluted the atmosphere and our earth. Our water is full of hydrocarbons, pharmaceuticals, and a plethora of other toxins/pollutants.
