For example, the 13th, 1414, and 15th Amendments were add to the Constitution. The 13th Amendment said that there shall be no slavery in the U.S. anymore. The 14th Amendment said that everyone that is born in the U.S. is a citizen and should be treated equal to everyone else. And lastly, the 15th Amendment said that anyone could vote or hold public office. And adding to that, slaves were no longer slaves, as many years passed by many other events occurring during Reconstruction.
The event that determined the status of slavery during the 1850s was the Wilmot Proviso. It was also a major cause of the Civil War.
